Liberty Has a Foundation
America is not merely divided.
America is forgetful.
We have forgotten where rights come from.
We have forgotten why government must be limited.
We have forgotten what kind of people liberty requires.
We have forgotten that citizenship includes duties, not merely opinions.
Liberty rests on two foundations: God-given rights and moral self-governing citizens.
If either foundation is destroyed, liberty cannot stand.
Rights do not come from government. They come from God. Civil government exists to protect those rights, not to invent them, redefine them, or remove them.
This matters because whatever government gives, government may also take away.
· If speech is a government privilege, it can be rationed.
· If worship is a government privilege, it can be restricted.
· If property is a government privilege, it can be seized.
· If parental authority is a government privilege, it can be replaced.
The American view of liberty begins somewhere else.
It begins with God as Creator, man as accountable, rights as pre-political, and government as limited.
But liberty also requires a certain kind of citizen.
A free society cannot be maintained by people who will not govern themselves. If citizens reject moral restraint, they will eventually demand external control. If families collapse, churches go silent, schools miseducate, and citizens neglect local duty, then written constitutions alone will not save the nation.
The restoration of liberty therefore begins with education.
Not merely political education, but moral, historical, biblical, constitutional, and local education.
We must teach again that God is above government, that law must answer to moral truth, that rulers are not supreme, and that citizens have duties in their homes, churches, counties, juries, and communities.
This work does not begin in Washington.
It begins locally.
It begins with families.
It begins with churches.
It begins with small groups of citizens willing to read, discuss, teach, and act.
Liberty is not preserved by spectators.
It is preserved by people who know the truth, govern themselves under God, and accept responsibility for their own communities.
Through teaching, public witness, and historical research, we encourage faithful Christian engagement in a time of growing secularism and centralized power.
